Balance vs. Drive: What I Want vs. What I can Do

This is an age-old challenge. Whether it's your personal life or business that is affected the challenge remains the same. How do you discover the perfect balance? When do you say, "Stop the bubble machine"?

Like me you may be highly motivated to succeed. The challenge is knowing when to take on a new project or a brief respite. Once I get my hands on a project I feel compelled to do my best as expediently as possible. This can be a good thing, but more often, it is like an addiction. The problem lies in the fact that I want to complete the task 'yesterday'. This is what is defined as Drive.

There are times, during the day, that 'normal' folk take breaks. These times allow for re-energizing and refreshing. I can't begin to count how often I have missed a meal or networking event simply because I felt the stress of getting a project completed even before it was due.

Can you relate? If so, then like me you may be suffering from the lack of balance in your business and personal life. Has your family or marriage suffered because of your determination? If so, perhaps you will find some of the techniques I have used will help you too.

The first step is to accept the fact that you have an uncontrollable urge to over-achieve. Once you accept that fact, you are well on your way to achieving evenness in your life.

Join me next month as I uncover several ways to help you achieve the sense of balance you seek.
